How to Apply
There are over 40 master’s accelerated degree options available at NMSU. You can choose a master's degree from the same discipline as your undergraduate major or one from a different discipline.
What to Expect?
The master's accelerated program allows you to share up to 12 credit hours between your undergraduate and graduate degree requirements. You must be at least a junior-level student to apply to a MAP program but that doesn’t mean you can’t plan ahead to make sure you’re on track.
Before your junior year you can review the accelerated master’s degree program options and talk to an academic advisor to discuss your program of interest and ensure you meet the GPA requirements. In your junior year, meet with your accelerated program advisor and/or the department head to discuss next steps and submit a MAP letter of intent. If you are interested in a master’s accelerated program in a different department than your current undergraduate program, make sure to speak with the department heads in both departments to find classes that will count toward both undergraduate and graduate degrees.
In your senior year, focus on completing shared coursework and your undergraduate degree and then apply to the graduate school.
How it works
-
Determine Course List
After you have met with the accelerated program advisor and/or department head you should have a list of undergraduate and graduate courses. You can view MAP course requirements in the NMSU catalog.
-
Apply to the MAP Program
Submit the MAP Letter of Intent to start the process.
-
Submit Course Forms
From the myNMSU Student Portal, complete a MAP course form for each course in your list. To be doubled counted, a course form must be completed before the first day of classes in the semester and before the course has been completed.
-
Get Approvals and Consider Financial Aid Impact
The academic Department Head for the master’s program you intend to pursue will approve course forms. To qualify for financial aid, MAP courses must count towards your undergraduate degree as electives or core courses. If a course does not qualify, the fanatical office will provide alternative support options if available.
-
Apply to Grad School After your Bachelor’s Degree
When you’ve completed your bachelor’s degree, apply to the graduate school at NMSU . When admitted, your MAP program courses will be double counted and used to fulfill both degrees.
